How to find cheaper insurance: 5 simple steps

It’s unfortunate but it’s true: insurance prices continue to rise in Ireland. Fraudulent claims and other economic factors have forced companies to raise their premiums and drivers all over the country are feeling the sting. It’s more important than ever to find cheaper insurance, but how exactly should you go about it? Here are five handy tips to help you on your way.

1. Choose your car carefully

While it may be tempting to opt for a flashy car it’s important to bear in mind that faster, modified vehicles with bigger engines are much more expensive to insure. If you’re serious about saving money on your premium you should really consider a more modest motor.

2. Get on your parents’ policy

If you’re a young driver this is a great way to lower your premium. It also allows you to build up a safety record and named driving experience, two factors which insurance companies take into account when young drivers want to go out on their own. And if you get on your parents’ policy you’ll have the opportunity to get your full licence before taking out your own insurance policy.

3. Keep an eye out for discounts

Discounts are often available if you don’t use your car very much or if you take out multiple policies with the same company. Don’t be afraid to ask. If you don’t ask, you won’t get.

4. Have your policy reviewed

Review your policies and get new quotes every year or so. If more than three years have expired since you last received penalty points, the insurance company won't automatically drop the rate. Again, make sure you ask!

5. Shop around

Premiums can vary greatly between different insurers so it’s essential to check out as many different options as possible. At GMIB.ie we do all the hard work by comparing quotes from over twenty different companies. You can get a Quick Quote online today… It just takes thirty seconds!
